The Appeal of Conscience Foundation strongly condemns the horrific attack on the synagogue, Addas Israel Congregation in Australia. Such acts of violence against places of worship are an affront to the very principles of peace, freedom, and mutual respect that underpin our societies.

The Appeal of Conscience Foundation has long advocated for the protection of religious institutions, having secured, in 2001, the passage of a United Nations resolution that safeguards houses of worship worldwide. Our ongoing efforts for the protection of houses of worship are more vital now than ever.

We urgently call upon Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and all government leaders worldwide to immediately dedicate resources and funding to strengthen and enhance security measures, ensuring the safety of all religious communities. An attack on a house of worship is not just an assault on the faithful, but an attack on the heart of society itself, targeting the values that bind us together. It is imperative that we remain vigilant in defending the sanctity of religious freedoms and take all necessary steps to protect these sacred spaces.
