Richard Haas, president of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), has appointed Rabbi Arthur Schneier to a newly formed CFR Religious Advisory Committee, which is the centerpiece of the Council’s new Religion and Foreign Policy Initiative. The committee will position the Council to “help its members and the public gain a deeper understanding of the issues at the intersection of religion and US foreign policy,” said Mr. Haas. The committee will provide guidance for all aspects of this new Religion and Foreign Policy Initiative.
Rabbi Schneier is joined on this new committee by former Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright, Reverend Chloe A. Breyer of St. Mary’s Manhattanville, Father J. Bryan Hehir of Harvard University’s Hauser Center, Olin C. Robison of the Salzburg Seminar, Luis E. Lugo, director of the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life, Peter Steinfels, codirector of the Fordham Center on Religion and Culture and other prominent religious leaders and thinkers.
