ACF Delegation to Argentina

Delegation met with President Roberta Viola who condemned anti-semitism. He issued a commuique stating that he will use his power to combat any form of religous descrimination and will sageguard the rights of individuals.The Minister of Education, Carlos Burundarene committed to disseminating the President’s statement throughout the school system and Minister of Interior General Liendo assured the delegation that the TV series “Holocaust” would be shown in Argentine television no later than January of 1982. Additional discussions focused on deterents against desecration of houses of worship, religious institutions and cemetaries. The delegation also held talks with the Minister of External Affairs and Religious Affairs Camilion and Minister of Justice Amadeo Frugoli regarding the fate of 857 prisoners being held under PEN (National Executive Power) and the question of those who have disappeared during the years of 1975-79. Anderson, Senior Minister, Brick Presbyterian Church, NY. Rev. Peter A. Rosazza, Roman Catholic Auxiliary Bishop of Hartford, CT; Marc Schneier, Senior Theological Student. In 1983 The delegation learned that 7,254 persons were released from PEN and the number of those imprisoned, paroled or under house arrest had been cut in half.
