ACF Delegation to USSR. ACF negotiates the study of 10 more rabbinical students in Hungary to later return to USSR after their studies

Rabbi Arthur Schneier and Father Thurston Davis, SJ. The agreement of the 10 students addresses the shortage of Rabbis in the Soviet Union. Estimated that 6 rabbis are serving 2 million Soviet Jews. Major cities like Kiev, Odessa, and Leningrad have no rabbis. ACF to absorb part of cost of the training. During press conference in NY Rabbi Arthur Schneier stressed the right of Jews and all people to leave their homelands if they chose is a paramount human right – but not the only right…the majority of the 3 million Soviet Jews will remain in the country and should have the right to perpetuate their religious and cultural heritage. “
