Rabbi Arthur Schneier, Senior Rabbi of Park East Synagogue and founder and president of the Appeal of Conscience Foundation is joining Pope Francis and Muslim religious leaders in calling for people of faith to take part in a Prayer for Humanity for an end to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic on Thursday, May 14th, by fasting, doing acts of kindness and engaging in prayer.
“While medicine and scientific research are key in fighting the pandemic, we should not forget to seek refuge in God, as we deal with this International health crisis”, stated Rabbi Arthur Schneier. “This day of faith and reflection will allow us to stand together for peace, humanity and unity.”
In solidarity with the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity, inspired by His Holiness Pope Francis and His Eminence Ahmed al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar. Rabbi Arthur Schneier urges that we join in prayer in our time of distress.
“Every day I recite Pslam118: Out of distress I called to God, with abounding relief, God answered me. The Lord is with me, I do not fear. Help free us from the Covid-19 pandemic that has inflicted humanity” stated Rabbi Arthur Schneier.
“But prayer alone is not sufficient, prayer has to be reinforced with action, and it behooves each one of us when we pray, to make a promise, a commitment, to do our part, as individuals, to help unite the human family, in pursuit of the cardinal principle of “Love Your Neighbor as Yourself and Respect The Other.” said Rabbi Arthur Schneier.
The Rabbi says, “In a wounded world of the pandemic, this is an additional reminder, that we are One Humanity with a common destiny, as builders of peaceful coexistence and religious cooperation. We believe United We Prevail from every crisis, convinced that we can repair, improve the world, together we will build a brighter future for our children and generations to come.”
