President Bajram Begaj, of the Republic of Albania presents Rabbi Arthur Schneier, Founder and President, Appeal of Conscience Foundation and Senior Rabbi, Park East Synagogue with Albania’s highest award, the Mother Teresa Decoration for his “unwavering commitment to serving others and promoting boundless compassion which has left an indelible mark on countless lives”.
The “Mother Teresa” Decoration is presented to Albanian and International Figures for their Exceptional Acts of Humanity towards the Albanian Nation and Humanity.
The award was presented at the Nazami Ganjavi Gala Dinner in the presence of leaders attending the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on September 20, 2023.
Vienna Born Rabbi Arthur Schneier always appreciated the generosity of the Albanian people for saving Austrian Jews from dehumanization and death during the Nazi era following the Anschluss in 1938. He has been on several Appeal of Conscience Foundation missions to Albania to strengthen democracy, religious freedom and human rights.
